Tagum Chamber holds 12th GMM, invites DOLE for OSH Officer Guidelines

The Tagum City Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Inc. (TCCCII) held its 12th General Membership Meeting (GMM) at Miko’s Brew Tagum, Apokon, Tagum City on Friday afternoon, February 17, 2023.

This GMM, the Chamber invited the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE)-Davao del Norte Field Office for the Implementing Rules and Regulations of Republic Act No. 11058 entitled “An Act Strengthening Compliance with Occupational Safety and Health Standards and Providing Penalties for Violations Thereof”.

“The number and qualification of safety officers shall be proportionate to the total number of workers and equipment, size of work area, classification of the workplace and such other criteria as required by the OSH standards,” Mr. Michael R. Manuel, Labor and Employment Officer III of DOLE, emphasized on his discussion on Safety Officers.

Mr. Manuel also covered the obligations and responsibilities of safety officers employed or designated under the Occupational Safety and Health (OSH) Program.

The OSH Officer is responsible for overseeing the overall operations of the OSH program in coordination with the OSH committee, regularly monitors and inspects any health or safety aspect of the operation and assists government inspectors in the conduct of safety and health inspections at any time whenever work is being done.

Whenever appropriate, the Labor and Employment Officer further stressed that the Safety Officer can issue a Work Stoppage Order (WSO) based on the specifications and guidelines established by the OSH standards.

The meeting was also joined by the Davao Consumer Movement Co-convenor Ryan Amper who discussed on the updates of power supply in the city.

Finally, the GMM hosted by Mr. Virgilio Agunod ended with the oathtaking of five new members presided by TCCCII President Engr. Aerol Conde.
